India vs West Indies: Hosts Complete 2–0 Sweep

On the last day of the second Test in the Arun Jaitley Stadium, India completed a seven-wicket triumph against the West Indies, breaking a 2-0 series whitewash. The victory which was achieved on the shoulders of disciplined batting and tireless bowling also solidifies India as a force in the Test cricket. The victory also leaves them well in the World Test Championship (WTC) table.

On day five, India had only to get 58 more runs to win and they promptly completed the task of the chase. Although there was a slight stutter, the outcome was never in doubt. There was a transient burst of opposition in the West Indies, but once again India managed to impress by its calmness, equilibrium, and dignity.

A Calm Chase Under Pressure

India started where it had left off at 63/1, and its openers were not going easy. KL Rahul, whose temperament is composed, led the chase with fluent half-century, and no early nerves had stayed in his mind, Sai Sudharsan, who had apparently gone well the previous evening, was dismissed after a shrewd one-handed catch by Shai Hope off Roston Chase. That was among the rare light spots of the visitors on an otherwise foreseeable morning.

Their collaboration with sharp drives and confident footwork was an India goal style. The knock of Rahul was restrained and graceful, and the whole hotel was reminded of his worth in run chase stabilization. Being a mature boy of less age, Jurel made sure that the scoreboard continued to tick with a minimum of noise.

The pair concluded the pursuit in a little more than an hour, bringing India the win at 121/3. It was a conclusive act after a succession of events that India had had its way.

How the Match Was Won

The victory of India in Day 5 was a result of the efforts that it made in the initial four days. They had already achieved 518/5 declared in the first inning. The 175 of Yashasvi Jaiswal was a masterpiece in calmness and the 129 of Shubman Gill one that displayed his maturity and timing. They constructed a background to the West Indies that it was hard to shake.

Caribbean counterattacked in the second innings led by Campbell (115) and Hope (103) with both of them getting fighting hundreds to take the game to the Day 5. Nevertheless, the bowlers in India were patient and clinical. Jasprit Bumrah attacked with accuracy and speed and made major wickets whenever there was any chance of a change of momentum. The spin that Kuldeep Yadav used was once again decisive as he bewildered batters with his variations.

A heroic 79-run partnership between the last wicket of Justin Greaves and Jayden Seales put off the inevitable but Bumrah forced through just before the stumps on Day 4, leaving India with an easy chase.

In the case of India, this was a reassertion of their complete strength. All the departments worked together the highest order received a lot of points, bowlers managed to change under any circumstances and the team was hot until the end.

The entry of such players as Jurel and Sudharsan enhances the position and the figure of Gill, Jaiswal and Rahul gives hope of more future tours. The consistency of Kuldeep and rhythm of Bumrah also augur well on the challenges ahead.

The seven wicket victory by India was not merely a matter of numbers and so, it was a matter of statement. They were in control, poised, and hungry throughout and there was no doubt that they dominated. As the WTC cycle is becoming warmer, this sweep awards India some precious points and momentum towards more difficult series.

As to the West Indies, they will steal lessons in robustness and performance, but the distance between the two parties will be clearly seen. At this point, it is India who are celebrating another clean-sweep – as well as another addition to their burgeoning Test heritage.
