With Cameron Green and Rinku Singh, KKR have the requisite temperament and pace to contest any bowling attack when they play well as a pair. Needing scoring in a game in which neither side has posted a tally under 100 in previous victories, the next awaywill be another big game at Eden Gardens. Although it rained recently in Kolkata, the weather looks perfect for batsmen with no grass seen on the playing surface. It was a slow-moving, slightly under-tempo and never free-swinging pitch. Hard lengths that usually provide bowlers with their safest base becomes dangerous. But even textbook deliveries can be lost down the court with a player with Marsh’s reach and technique. Rishabh Pant finds himself once again in the middle of the trouble of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) as another good start-up team turns out to make another all-too-familiar failure, this time against Mumbai Indians in IPL 2026. Pant not being in good form and LSG failing to maintain the momentum they had built on, has added up to frustrating pattern that occurred in a season with high expectations. Although it is not the players initial setback, the team seventh defeat has again thrown light on more than just the individual players. Although he has made decent contact, he has on multiple occasions been caught in the deep which has highlighted how narrow the margins are at this stage. Mumbai Indians coach, Mahela Jayawardene noted that many of such shots are in the natural game of Suryakumar and that the problem could not be that it involves technical shots only and not situational execution. In the meantime, retired players have also come up with diverse views on his dip. Punjab Kings Bowling Woes were on display after Rajasthan Royals posted a massive target of 222 to chase in New Chandigarh. This contest has been a great spectacle for bowlovers this season as fearless batsmen, big-hitting starts and regular pressure on the scoreboard have been part of it all. But their last loss showcased one weakness that could thwart any IPL challenge  a lack of bowling consistency. One defeat is hardly reason to panic, but how it happened will have management worried. Rajasthan Royals not only won; they made the game look easy, and this bodes ill for Punjab Kings in the middle of the IPL 2026. First, Punjab Kings thought 222 would give them a comfortable lead on a wicket that initially appeared to be tacky. Captain Shreyas Iyer congratulated his players for adapting well and putting up a good score. With momentum changing hands, Punjab Kings looked lost. Their bowlers all appeared to be struggling, and anxiety grew with each ball. Arshdeep Singh’s underperformance is another cause for concern. Generally a reliable strike bowler, the left-armer is having a tough IPL. His economy rate and average have spiked up, while the opposition is getting more runs from him. His left-arm spin offers Punjab Kings a weapon in the powerplay and middle overs. If managed effectively in conjunction with another spinner, Brar will add balance. Finally, Punjab Kings can’t afford to panic from this loss. Their batting is still fearsome in IPL 2026, and they are still firmly in contention for the IPL. But champions are shaped by learning lessons well before the big games. Punjab needs improved death bowling, pace variation and a rapid resurgence from senior bowlers, with the series with the Rajasthan Royals rapidly approaching. Bhuvneshwar Kumar delivered a masterclass of pace bowling as they outscored Delhi Capitals to reach a dramatic low point during the powerplay in one of the IPL’s most exciting matches. At a ground famous for boundary shots, big scores and audacious hitting, the experienced fast bowler crafted a display of swing, control and pressure. It had the batter outpaced and smashed into his stumps: the beginning of the end. He ended up with sparkling figures of 3 for 5 in the powerplay. But it wasn’t just his figures that were impressive. Each ball added pressure. Every maiden heightened tension. The batsmen of Delhi were not allowed to freely defend or aggressively attack. That is the fine art of new-ball bowling and Bhuvneshwar Kumar played it to perfection. But RCB’s rampage was a team effort. Josh Hazlewood assaulted from the other end with a magical spell of 3 for 8. The lanky Aussie bowled short and full. The additional bounce may have shocked a number of Delhi players; others spun the ball away. Hazlewood had a brutal strategy – repeatedly bowl balls into one area until errors occur. In partnership with Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Hazlewood showed us that conventional fast bowling remains a winner in T20. Where most rely on slower bowling or yorkers, RCB had faith in a variety of movement, seam and pinpoint accuracy. And on a pitch with enough help, it was unstoppable. Once Delhi Capitals lost their way early, it was all downhill. Their play tapered off to survival mode. While not the holders of the unwanted record for the lowest IPL total, they were always behind in this fight. BCR’s batters later finished the job patiently, but knowing they were only tidying up. It also demonstrated why Royal Challengers Bengaluru could be a championship contender. To be successful in T20, teams need strong batters, but titluies are often secured by wicket-taking bowlers who can perform in decisive moments. Ravindra Jadeja again showed why experience and understanding of the game is invaluable, in T20 cricket. With a powerful all rounder, the Rajasthan Royals making calculated calm moves with his bat and ball in a challenging pitch where the capacity to execute great strokes was never straightforward, the team won the match by 40 margin over the Lucknow Super Giants. Other men sought the chance of a run, Jadeja relied upon waiting and time and match-knowledge. RR were on the wrong foot as Ravindra Jadeja came to the crease. The score was 62 at the end of the fourth over which represents 4 and the innings was liable to collapse. The surface provided good movement and unequal bouncing, turning attacking shots a dangerous possibility. To begin with Jadeja emphasized on survival and stability. Kolkata Knight Riders eventually get a lift off in IPL 2026 following a tight run-off in order to beat Rajasthan Royals, and achieve their first win of the year. The six unsuccessful matches came to an end when KKR got relieved with the help of their favourite pair of spins and a calm ending by Rinku Singh. It was no smooth, it was no easy but it can be the moment when their campaign starts again. The tension on Kolkata Knight Riders in the lead-up to the game was tremendous. A second loss would have put them well into ineliminationville. Instead, they reacted with grit, canny bowling and calmness during the last over to surpass 155 of the Rajasthan with two balls left. The building blocks of this victory were made by the KKR spinners first. Early on, Rajasthan Royals had things going their way and were 81 without error, and were looking to score way higher. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi managed the powerplay cleverly, reading the slower surface, and not taking needless risks. But after the spin attack was introduced, then everything changed. Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine showed once again why they can be considered as one of the most feared combinations in T20 cricket. Varun ended with three wickets with Narine behind him with two and they squeezed Rajasthan through the internal overs. The eight overs between them cost a total of 40 only and got them five wickets. On a pitch that was grippy and turny, the two managed the tempo brilliantly. Rajasthan spiraled out of a good base and lost momentum at the point where teams should gain momentum. This was followed by an assaulting cameo by Anukul Roy smashing 29 with only 16 balls and attacking lengths where others had found it difficult to score, without any fear. That alliance changed the equation. Archer bowled a wonderful penultimate over full of yorkers, but Roy got an important six. KKR was on the advantage with nine required on the last over. And at last, Rinku Singh finished the job off in fashion. The left-hander hit a match-winning six which simultaneously raised his half-century to the sky, and the fans jubilated and ended the pitiful beginning of the season that Kolkata had. This victory was not just two points to Kolkata Knight Riders. It was concerning trust, momentum and evidence that they still have match winners who can turn the game around. Their spinners are still top of the world, their lower middle order managed to rescue tricky chases and Rinku Singh proved once again why he performs well when it counts.
