Manchester United vs Brighton: Cunha, Mbeumo Lead Victory

Manchester United vs Brighton, The Manchester united led by Ruben Amorim has remained in the same splendid form as they cheated in a very exciting match with Brighton at Old Trafford by 4 goals to 2 goals victory. After winning the statement game at Anfield last weekend, the Red Devils carried on with more energy after Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha ran the show in a highly dramatic, precise, and attacking game.

United seemed to be out to prove their dominance even from the very first whistle. On their side the ball was pushed high by Amorim and quickly moved which forced Brighton to make errors in defensive third. The mob knew something was happening early and they were not disappointed.

Matheus Cunha scored within only 12 minutes of the game to start the scoring with a composed finish which followed a clever pass by Bruno Fernandes. It was his initial goal since the summer trading with Wolves and it demonstrated precisely why Amorim had the trust in him to spearhead the line.

The United did not decrease with the opener. Casemiro in reverse, made the advantage two goal midway through the first half with severely deflected shot that left the goalkeeper of Brighton standing there paralyzed. The emotional process played out on the side of the Brazilian, who controlled the play in the middle of the field, creating space by stopping attacks and supplying possession.

Brighton Fight Back and yet United Hold Firm.

They were indeed handed a lifeline by former Red Danny Welbeck who gave them a curling free kick which slipped past Senne Lammens who could have done better. It was frustrating to the young Belgian goalkeeper whose performance in the game had been impressive with some crucial saves throughout the game especially when he denied Yankuba Minteh a goal when the match was at a goal two situation.

Nevertheless, the fact that United showed by concession that they could concede indicated the resilience that Amorim has created in this side. They do not panic and instead they rallied fast to keep pressing home on the defense of Brighton. This got the trainees their way as before the break, Bryan Mbeumo scored the goal 3-1, driving home a slick shot on the right side of the field organized by Amad Diallo.

Magic and Leadership by Mbeumo and Fernandes respectively.

Had Cunha not been there to display the mood, it was Bryan Mbeumo who stole the show. Brentford man of old has taken his rest at Old Trafford as though he were a born resident. The speed, accuracy and sharpness of his attack as well as his smarts were all on display as he stretched Brighton at all times. His second goal which came late in the game was a well-timed finish to a low cross and it killed the hopes of Brighton to have a comeback.

Bruno Fernandes, in his 300 th match with Manchester United, demonstrated that he has the ability to be called the heartbeat of this team. It was his creativity, urgency and vision that kept United going. One of the witty tricks in the second half of the game led to applause and prepared numerous dangerous moments. During the last ten minutes when Brighton charged in search of a goal, the presence of calmness in Fernandes helped United to complete the game.

Although this result may be indicative of an open-minded game, United had some notable plays in the back.

Every one of the essentials was Matthijs de Ligt who has had perhaps the best season of his career. The leadership and pleasing tackles by the Dutch defender came at the right time to ensure that United remained in shape. The noise of the Stretford End when he crunched in the second half told everything.

Leny Yoro, in place of Harry Maguire made an erratic appearance but got better as the match progressed and displayed self control and composure when faced, demonstrated some level of maturity. The other stalwart player, Luke Shaw, who was replaced in 64 th minute by a knock, also performed very well, which is in line with his recovery after the difficult showing in Manchester derby.

Senne Lammens did not have a pleasant evening. His stopping of shots was quick, yet to give away when Welbeck shot a free kick will early the next day vex him. Nevertheless, the performance and command of his area by the young keeper and his increasing confidence augur well in the future of United.

This to their credit has revitalized United with the tactical flexibility of Ruben Amorim. The width and speed that gave Brighton no rest all day was generated by his choice to play Amad and Mbeumo as wide players. The high-pressing system introduced by Amorim has endowed United with a ferocious attacking team  one that is not only a goal scorer but also an entertainer.

The side led by Amorim has not made three wins in a row in the Premier League yet, and most of them were more impressive than ever. Although his role is difficult to disregard, the Portuguese tactician has an accent on the players, making the pressing tense and transitions between defense and attacks quick and calculated.

Late Drama.

During the later stages of the match, Amorim also changed a number of players to keep the players at a certain fitness level. Ayden Heaven took the place of Shaw and played in well and Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte brought vitality to the middle-field.

There were unmemorable cameos of Patrick Dorgu and Joshua Zirkzee. The second goal of Brighton was as a result of foul by Dorgu which was converted by Charalampos Kostoulas and Zirkzee lost his marker in the same action. Nevertheless, United was in no way challenged during these late lapses, and the goal that Mbeumo scored at the end of the match attempted to win the 4-2.

The victory catapults Manchester United up the ladder of the Premier League and maintains their movement towards the next match. Amorim provides his side with balance and depth with a combination of both the aged leaders such as Casemiro and Fernandes and the emerging talents such as Yoro and Lammens – the key components in a top-four challenge.

Brighton on the other hand will be reeling in dismal defensive mistakes and failed opportunities. They could not keep up with the pace, power and accuracy of attack by United, despite occasions of encouraging signs.

The Manchester United vs Brighton game was not any other game in the English Premier League but it was a declaration of intent. United are becoming a high intensity side with a cohesive unit with the ability to play anyone under the leadership of Ruben Amorim. Cunha has regained his scoring streak, and Mbeumo is at his best, which means the Red Devils are better placed to deal with any obstacles that may arise.

And with the Old Trafford regulars celebrating a successive victory, the message was heard and there was no mistaking the message that Manchester United is back to playing with faith, courage and style.
