India vs Namibia was all about a show of strength and accuracy with India going on a rampage to an all time 93-run triumph in T20 world cup that indicates the difference in caliber between the two teams. With explosive half-centuries provided by Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya and polished off, ruthlessly, by a spin attack by Varun Chakravarthy, India defeated a gallant Namibian side, which nevertheless proved itself in some quarters, but was unable to maintain the pressure.
To start with, the groundwork was made by the splendid attack of Kishan on the head of the order. The left-hander scampered 20-ball half-century hence placing bowlers of Namibia at the mercy of the potent pressure. He had a plan at the very beginning, the length of attack, the dominate spin, and it was necessary to maximize the powerplay. There was free flow of boundaries and India scored at a rate of more than ten an over during the initial stages.
But Namibia had short-lived respite in their captain Gerhard Erasmus. In the eighth over, Erasmus brought himself in, and with his first ball of the inning, which pinned Kishan against his side, drove him up to deep midwicket where the exasperated man was forced to take a catch. That innovation made a temporary shift. Together with a left arm spinner Bernard Scholtz, Erasmus would screw during the middle overs. The two allowed only 30 runs in 6 overs as they took the matter of Surya kumar Yadav and Tilak Varma, rescuing India who had seemed to be heading towards 220 and above.
But India vs Namibia soon slanted the other way round. Hardik Pandya took charge when there was a demise over with a calculated aggression. He was at first patient, quickening at the point when the seamers went back, and removing the bowling in overs 14 to 18. India looted 65 runs during that stage, and dominated the game once again. The 27-ball half-century that Hardik made consisted of towering sixes with the sixth one that had raised his milestone and India 200.
Erasmus made a daring attempt at bowling himself in the final 19 th over where he wasn’t able to get out against two set hitters. The gamble almost paid off. A brilliant jugging grab in the boundary sent Hardik away as soon as he had hit fifty. What followed was chaos. Shivam Dube was runout lost, Axar Patel having fallen completely behind a slower delivery and Namibia had pulled off disciplined yorkers in the last over to restrict India to 209 of 9. It was a very impressive amount even when it crumbled at the end of the day.
Then India vs Namibia entered the crucial stage the attack. The openers of Namibia Jan Frylinck and Louren Steenkamp started off well, as they exploited some of the loose deliveries of Arshdeep Singh. There was a trace of interest, at 67 for 1 in the eighth over.
Varun Chakravarthy almost put out that flicker. His first ball he gave a ripping wrong’un, which knocked down the stumps of Steenkamp. Varun had three wickets out of his first ten deliveries. The variations of the mystery spinner were too subtle and too sharp to the middle order in Namibia and as such were able to close the competition before it was fully developed in to an excitement worthy of the name.
Erasmus tried to resist, and delivered two great sweeps of the slogs upon Axar Patel. Butaxar retorted quickly and stripped away the Namibian skipper and hopes of a dramatic reversal. Thence onwards went the innings gradually.
Zane Green and Trumpelmann were able to piece together a small seventh-wicket alliance which stagnated the inevitable to a short period. Jasprit Bumrah came back after sickness and struck on the spot with a yorker to produce a break, which reminded the audiences about his accuracy in a pressurized situation. Hardik was then the first to top a fine all round display by claiming two wickets off two consecutive balls, leaving Namibia trailing with 116 all out.
Lastly, India vs Namibia exhibited supremacy and richness. The fearless opening by Kishan, the explosive finish by Hardik and the clinic dismantling by the spinners showcased the balance on the Indian side on the various departments. Namibia in their turn also showed some elements of restraint and resistance, especially in Erasmus, yet the gap in experience and performance was significant.
To India, this massive victory builds the group stage momentum and also improves net run rate tremendously. To Namibia, the lessons of this experience will be inexpensible as they plough on in the world arena. This time quality triumphed overwhelmingly.
