Sameer Rizvi now became the difference-maker as Delhi Capitals maintained the same good in the season as they comfortably led six wicket victory over the Mumbai Indians, with 11 balls left in hand. With the target of 163 set against a challenging surface in the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi started off misunderstandably but it took the brilliance of Rizvi with the bat to edge them out to their second win in 2026 in the IPL.

First, the manner of the chase was not comfortable at all. Delhi capitals lost the early services of KL Rahul who was caught by Deepak Chahar and they then suffered a run-out that placed them at a disadvantage on the powerplay. The pitch was not the easiest to bat on either, there was no even pace and playing at half the grip made it hard to bat. Pathum Nissanka however, rose at an opportune time, going on the offensive. His aggressive style made sure that Delhi did not lag too far too far behind in the run, since he discovered limits in the face of Jasprit Bumrah and others to ensure that the scoreboard was still running.

The game however changed when Sameer Rizvi moved in. Rizvi was particularly reserved in the beginning, but then gradually he gained the pitch conditions and then he started speeding up at an astounding pace. After he discovered his step there was no stopping him. He attacked Corbin Bosch, and forced him in a series of decisive strokes, freely hit upon, with a variety of novelty and smooth hits. Since cutting deliveries in front of the point to delivering them directly at the ground, Rizvi reversed it on Mumbai Indians in a few overs.

At the other end David Miller was the ideal supporting part. Without over many deliveries, his presence kept matters stable since Rizvi monopolized the points. Their alliance successfully had stolen the game off Mumbai, with calculated aggression Delhi brought his team closer to their goal. His second goal in his second consecutive match gave Rizvi a fifty at the most critical time, and underscored his increased confidence in this league.

It was a period of expectation since Rizvi was going to mark a century that would have been remembered. In 51 off 90, He mishit one of those off Bosch, and was caught at long off, returning to the dugout of a standing ovation at Delhi. Although he did not take a hundred, it had been done in his innings. At this point the outcome was nearly set in stone, and Delhi only required a few more runs.

Lastly, the rest of the runs were followed on easy with Delhi Capitals taking a comfortable final of the game. The win was not only based on the heroic performance of Rizvi, but also solid bowling performance earlier in the game. Mumbai Indians had then scored 162 off 6 which was largely due to Suryakumar Yadav scoring 50 to them though bowlers of Delhi kept things close, particularly at the end conceded not much in the final four overs.

This victory highlights the even-handed nature of Delhi Capitals to date. Their bowling unit has been on course and with the advent of Sameer Rizvi as a stable match-winner in the middle order, the team seems to be very confident. To the Mumbai Indians this loss shows where improvements can be made especially on managing pressure in the middle overs.

Delhi Capitals are now rolling and with such an attitude maintained by Rizvi, then they may easily be listed among those who will not be beaten easily this season.
