Bruno Fernandes Premier League Player of Season

Following a superb campaign at Old Trafford, Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has joined the list of key stories of the 2025-26 season having just been voted Premier League Player of Season. As United bounced back to the Champions League and third in the table following a difficult year, Midford has been their standout figure, with his quality of play, leadership and creativity far more prominent than any other player in the division.

Fernandes is a remarkable world class and got an outstanding award and reflects the contribution he’s made all season. The accolade was won on a mixture of fans and a panel of football experts’ votes, leaving him in the company of a rare breed of players who have made a difference in the Premier League. It also marks the end of a wait for Manchester United, for the club’s first time picking up this prestigious honour since the late Nemanja Vidic in 2011.

Fernandes who regularly led the way in terms of creativity and influence in the past season will thankfully be remembered for it. His ability to put his teammates in position to score has been his best weapon, rather than goals. The assistant scored a second assist to Nottingham Forest in his last game to push him to 20 for the season the Premier League’s record for an individual.

It’s a figure that speaks for itself, but speaks of the influence that Fernandéz has had on the game. When looked at as a bigger picture, though, these numbers are all the more impressive. This season he’s amassed 132 chances in the Premier League, four more than any other player. Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai is an astounding 43 chances behind Fernandes at No.2. A lack of this gap is proof enough to say the Manchester United captain has been more consistent than others, and also shows that he’s more creative than others.

Its has not been just an assist engine for the midfielder either. He has also got eight league goals and has been instrumental in providing inspiration in many situations, where his side was required to take the lead. From a flawless pass, a powerful finish or his leadership, Fernandes always has a way of having an impact when it matters most and keeping United on the right footing throughout an unusually difficult campaign.

But his achievement is more important as far as his captaincy is concerned. Being the leader of Manchester United has its high stakes, high expectations and high scrutiny. Each performance is analysed, each decision is debated, and each outcome is magnified. Fernandes’ success has nonetheless been achieved in the face of these difficulties.

The manager of Manchester United went through changes in his time, and his leadership has been pivotal during this period. Michael Carrick replaced Ruben Amorim in January and steered a more level course for the club. The transition didn’t affect Fernandes’ core role for the team, as he was able to give stability on the field and on the jumps for young players.

The award is also the latest in a string of big individual honours. Fernandes’ domination of the season was reaffirmed earlier this month when he was voted Football Writers’ Association Man of the Year for men’s football. Having won both, in the same month, shows his respect to journalists, supporters, analysts, and football professionals.

There was a tough competition for the award. Arsenal had strong campaigns from all three of their forwards (David Raya, Gabriel and Declan Rice). Erling Haaland, who had been nominated previously, kept up the goal scoring for Man City while Brentford striker Igor Thiago and Nottingham Forest playmaker Morgan Gibbs-White were also nominated. But no one had the same impact on his team’s success as Fernandes.

Manchester City’s junior player Nico O’Reilly was named Premier League Young Player of the Season and nicked him out of the spotlight for the senior accolade. The 21-year-old had a breakthrough season, scoring five goals and also contributing three assists he’s become indispensable to City. His development has seen him also rewarded on the international level, making it to England’s World Cup squad under Thomas Tuchel.

But for Manchester United, the de facto spotlight is definitely on Fernandes. The club are entering into their final encounter of the season with Brighton on top having taken up the qualification run for the Champions League and blown the title to be his captain.

There is a simple message that I want to convey in this announcement. Team success can have an influence on individual awards in football, but as well as that, there is the consistency of excellence. Fernandes has provided both. His creativity, leadership and impact on games has made him a vital part of Manchester United’s fort and no one can even look over his shoulder at the Premier League.

Bruno Fernandes, who has been a brilliant footballer throughout the season, is an ideal end-of-season tribute to a man who remains strong, skilful and leaderful in the Premier League. It is a recognition for Manchester United supporters to a captain who has always been in the front. Other than the Warriors, it is a recognition of a player that established the standard in its last season in 2025-26.
