The 2024 season brings exciting developments to the F1 ACADEMY™, with significant changes aimed at recognizing talent, fostering development, and expanding opportunities within the racing community. In this article, we delve into the latest updates announced by F1 ACADEMY™, including the introduction of Super Licence points and Wild Card entries.
F1 ACADEMY™ acknowledges the pivotal role of driver development and technical prowess in racing. Hence, the top five classified drivers in the 2024 Drivers’ Standings will now receive FIA Super Licence Points, a move that underscores the series’ commitment to nurturing talent. The allocation of Super Licence Points varies, with the winner of the 2024 season receiving 10 points, followed by seven points for the second-place driver, five points for third place, three points for fourth place, and one point for fifth place.
In a bid to strengthen the talent pool within regions where F1 ACADEMY™ races, Wild Card entries will be introduced at select races. This initiative aims to identify and offer opportunities to promising young women from the host region. Wild Card entries will be operated by reigning Team Champions, PREMA Racing, in addition to their regular entries. Selected drivers will receive support and training from PREMA Racing throughout the race weekend. Wild Card entrants will have the chance to earn points in the Drivers’ Standings, adding a new dimension to the competition and amplifying the platform for emerging talent.
To ensure ongoing opportunities for rising talent, F1 ACADEMY™ has implemented a regulation stating that drivers may only compete in two seasons of the series. This rule aims to facilitate a continuous influx of fresh talent into the racing arena.
Susie Wolff, F1 Academy Managing Director, emphasizes the forward momentum of F1 ACADEMY™ and the significance of the announced developments. She underscores the importance of Super Licence points in advancing drivers’ careers and highlights the broader impact of Wild Card entries in fostering regional talent and community engagement.
The 2024 season marks a significant leap forward for F1 ACADEMY™, with the introduction of Super Licence points, Wild Card entries, and updated Sporting Regulations. These initiatives underscore the series’ commitment to excellence, inclusivity, and the continual evolution of motorsport.
