Grosjean recently had the opportunity to test drive Lamborghini’s new SC63 LMDh after a significant crash in August disrupted the testing schedule. The three-day testing session at the Almeria circuit in Spain not only marked Grosjean’s first experience with the hybrid prototype but also signaled a crucial phase in Lamborghini’s collaborative project with Ligier Automotive.
The collaborative effort aims to propel Lamborghini into the World Endurance Championship and the IMSA SportsCar Championship, showcasing a hybrid prototype that promises innovation and high performance.
The recent testing comes after the SC63 sustained major damage during a test at Paul Ricard in August. This setback prompted a temporary halt in Lamborghini’s development program, affecting the original testing schedule, including the cancellation of a planned test at Spa-Francorchamps.
Despite the challenges, Iron Lynx team principal Andrea Piccini expressed resilience, emphasizing that setbacks are part of the motor racing journey. The team had to reshuffle its program, balancing commitments between the USA and Europe.
Piccini addressed concerns about potential delays in the SC63’s development, stating that while it would have been better not to lose time, the team remains optimistic about sticking to the original schedule. The plan includes testing in the USA and Europe simultaneously, with challenges posed by the complex process of homologating the car on two sides of the world.
The recent testing at Almeria featured a new chassis, confirming that it was part of the original plan and not a direct replacement for the damaged car at Paul Ricard. Grosjean and Caldarelli covered approximately 2000km during the testing, marking a significant milestone for the SC63.
Taking a step back, the SC63 had a shakedown at Vallelunga in August before proper testing began at Imola. Drivers Caldarelli, Bortolotti, and Kvyat were behind the wheel during the testing at Imola, contributing to the development of the hybrid prototype.
In conclusion, the recent testing at Almeria signifies a crucial phase in Lamborghini’s journey with the SC63 LMDh. Despite challenges, the Iron Lynx team remains resilient and committed to delivering a high-performance hybrid prototype. The anticipation for the SC63’s debut in competitive racing continues to grow.
