Francesco Bagnaia’s triumphant moment at the Indonesian MotoGP sparked jubilant celebrations in the Ducati garage. Bagnaia’s lead in the MotoGP standings had taken a hit, and just a day prior, Jorge Martin had surged ahead during the sprint race at Mandalika. However, Martin’s unfortunate exit from the grand prix paved the way for Bagnaia to regain the championship lead and express his elation. But one MotoGP legend, Jorge Lorenzo, had reservations about the exuberant display.
In an interview with DAZN, Lorenzo voiced his disapproval, saying, “These gestures are not going well. Do not provoke the beast; this battle is far from over. It’s wise to keep your adversary calm and not irk him. Martin’s misfortune prevented him from winning.”
Lorenzo, a three-time MotoGP champion, understands the intensity of the championship battle that Bagnaia and Martin find themselves in, especially with just five rounds left in the season and an 18-point lead for the reigning champion. Lorenzo emphasized the importance of Bagnaia maintaining a low profile.
He shared his perspective, stating, “I can’t predict what I would do in Bagnaia’s shoes. But, strategically, it’s in his best interest to remain humble. He’s also somewhat fortunate that Martin made that crucial mistake. Keeping a low profile is essential; provoking Jorge might unleash even greater determination. Let’s remember, Bagnaia didn’t win the race; Martin lost it.”
As the MotoGP season progresses, the battle will recommence at the Australian MotoGP, the second part of a triple-header culminating in Thailand. The rivalry between Bagnaia and Martin promises to be a gripping spectacle, and the stakes have never been higher.
