Kyle Larson attempts for a second time at reaching history in 2025 by aiming to follow only four other drivers in accomplishing “The Double” series which includes running both the Indianapolis 500 and Coca-Cola 600 on one complete day. The Hendrick Motorsports driver takes on The Double again in 2025 after his last attempt ended in rain at Charlotte and a penalty at Indy by bringing two distinctive paint schemes that unite his NASCAR heritage with his open-wheel aspirations.

The new No. 5 Chevrolet Coca-Cola 600 design and No. 17 Arrow McLaren-Hendrick Chevrolet Indy 500 design feature colorful paint schemes coming from competing racing disciplines. The two competing machines display HendrickCars.com blue as their primary color but receive McLaren’s papaya orange as secondary accents in what becomes a clear fusion between NASCAR and IndyCar racing. Prime Video branding adorns the sidepods of the IndyCar while Larson teams up with Amazon for the race in combination with documentary coverage of his The Double project.

The 2021 Indianapolis 500 witnessed Larson lead numerous laps since he received significant penalties after speeding during his late stop that dropped his final position to 18th. He missed his opportunity to compete any laps at Charlotte during that race weekend. The delayed monsoon at Indianapolis required Larson to prolong his event stay beyond expectations until NASCAR ended the racing event before he could drive the No. 5 with Allgaier’s shift.

He pursues this entrant with optimistic intentions while aiming to gain a spot in motorsports historical records. The history books show four drivers managing both I-500 and Coca-Cola 600 races on the same day: John Andretti, Tony Stewart, Robby Gordon, and Kurt Busch. However, Stewart is the one who accomplished this feat by finishing on the lead lap in both races during 2001.

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway at 2.5 miles has hosted the legendary “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing” since 1911 when 33 top drivers competed at speeds exceeding 230 mph. The Coca-Cola 600 represents NASCAR’s toughest endurance challenge since it requires competitors to drive 600 miles through Charlotte Motor Speedway where machines and racers must reach their absolute potential.

Larson brings an enhanced strategy to his 2025 attempt after his first year of experience making his next attempt much more exciting. The partnership between McLaren-Hendrick advances steadily as Amazon’s participation enhances the event’s visibility. The NASCAR Cup Series champion is preparing to test his talent against history by attempting a double feat that too few drivers have achieved before him.
