Lewis Hamilton, a seven-time Formula 1 world champion, has expressed his patient approach as he awaits a more competitive car from Mercedes. Since his last victory at the 2021 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, Hamilton has faced a winless streak, marked by his closely contested loss to Max Verstappen in the championship that year.
Max Verstappen continued his success by securing a second world title in 2022 and maintaining his dominance into 2023. With victories in 10 out of the 12 races this season, Verstappen is on track for his third world championship. Meanwhile, Hamilton has struggled to challenge Verstappen, largely due to Mercedes’ year-long struggle with competitiveness.
Hamilton, at 38 years old, remains motivated by his unceasing desire for improvement. He emphasized that the pursuit of refinement keeps him engaged until he has access to a more competitive car.
In response to inquiries about his motivation, Hamilton stated, “There are always areas you can improve, and that’s what drives me. We’re continuously refining our behind-the-scenes operations, enhancing our processes, and making necessary adjustments.” He further elaborated on the efforts to enhance communication within the team and ensure accurate information flow among the departments. Additionally, Hamilton highlighted the team’s focus on specific technical aspects, including rebound characteristics and through-corner balance of the car.
