Sameer Rizvi has been able to create chaos into control in LSG vs DC and providing a level-headed yet match-winning innings that helped Delhi Capitals to annul an amazing win in a low scoring tense match. Certainly on a pitch that was bad in terms of seam movement and discomfort to batters, unbeaten Rizvi 70 became a defining performance that showed to his team manage to turn to him when they most needed.
To start with even the match was influenced by unfriendly batting conditions at Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. The red-soil surface helped the fast bowlers to a great degree, and the ball bounced and seamed in the light. Lucknow Super Giants had been tangoed out in 18.4 overs with 141 which seemed to be lower than the average but it soon became competitive in the circumstances. The initiation of the chase by Delhi Capitals was dismal with the team losing four out of a total of 26 through this five overs.
The first ball fell on KL Rahul and it was an omen of a collapse. Nitish Rana slipped, Pathum Nissanka gave a mishit on a pull, and Axar Patel was beaten by pace comprehensively. The top order had been destroyed, and panic had commenced. In the dugout, there was a disorder with management of teams rushing to place the correct batter at the bat. At some point Sameer Rizvi came to be the Impact Player and this move would come to determine the fate of LSG vs DC.
But unfortunately Rizvi did not open his book with a fluent start. It took him nine deliveries to get his first run showing how hard the pitch was. In addition to Tristan Stubbs, he concentrated on the survival and not on the aggression. The frontiers withered, and Delhi was reduced to 40 to 4 through seven theovers. The rate required started to increase gradually, and the stress was increasing.
But here ended the turning point. Rizvi shattered the boundary dry spell by a bold lunging shot overshooting Anrich Nortje, and flying over the third man to six. Not only did that shot relieve the pressure but it also changed the momentum. Rizvi started settling there, but he picked his time and aimed at selected bowlers.
In the meantime, there was the strategic choice of Lucknow, as well. Rishabh Pant brought Shahbaz Ahmed on board to take the place of the fifth frontline bowler. Rizvi suffered no loss of time, and demonstrated his spin strength. He rolled hacked and glanced Shahbaz across several boundaries in one over, accruing 16 runs and unloading the pressure cooker in Delhi.
But Lucknow made an attempt to resume control by falling behind. Boundaries once more dried up, at least in the short run, but Rizvi was not Galloped. He was able to change and adapt wittingly, taking turns on strike and biding time. Rizvi assaulted as soon as Aiden Markram walked out, moving back to strike on long-on and then slashing the next short-cut to the boundary. That turn raised his fifty years and firmly established Delhi in charge.
At last, Rizvi propelled himself at the right time. He attacked Mohsin Khan boldly, striking four and half-dozen in as many strokes, before he put an end to the game with another four. His untouchable 70 with 47 balls with five fours and four sixes was a lesson on how to put a run on the board at a time when it counted.
On the other hand, Stubbs served well but as a supporting player in his 39 off 32 balls which was not as essential as it was Rizvi who controlled the game. The 115 run partnership helped in making sure that Delhi entered the finishing line without a lot of trouble, even after the initial collapse.
Finally, LSG vs DC demonstrated the significance of being calm and adaptive when it comes to T20 cricket. The innings of Sameer Rizvi was not only about to score but to see the situation, take in the pressure and go faster at the appropriate moment. This victory may turn out to be a turning point in the history of Delhi Capital whereas to Rizvi, the victory is a big milestone in achieving certain consistency in his IPL career.
