Maverick Vinales Joins Tech3 KTM for 2025 MotoGP Season

Maverick Vinales is set to make a significant move in the MotoGP world, leaving Aprilia to join the newly rebranded Tech3 KTM squad for the 2025 season. This transition marks the end of Vinales’ three-year stint with Aprilia, during which he secured one grand prix victory in Austin and a total of seven podium finishes. The Spaniard will team up with Enea Bastianini, another highly talented rider, in this new endeavor.

Vinales’ departure from Aprilia comes as a surprise to many in the MotoGP community. His time with Aprilia has been marked by notable achievements, including his memorable win in Austin this year. However, the opportunity to join the Tech3 KTM team presents a new challenge and a chance to compete at the highest level with full factory backing.

The Tech3 team, managed by Pierer Mobility Group, currently competes under the GasGas banner but will be rebranded under the KTM marque for the 2025 season. This change signifies a renewed focus on strengthening the KTM brand in MotoGP, and Vinales’ addition to the team is a significant step in that direction.

Vinales will not be making this journey alone. He will be joined by Enea Bastianini, a five-time grand prix winner, who will be transitioning from the factory Ducati team. Bastianini’s place in the Ducati team is set to be taken over by Marc Marquez next season, making way for this exciting new partnership at Tech3 KTM.

Pit Beirer, KTM’s motorsports director, expressed his enthusiasm about the new lineup: “We’re very happy we could bring both Enea and Maverick into our MotoGP project and provide them with full factory backing and support to keep pursuing their goals and achieving their maximum performance. It’s clear we are talking about two of the fastest riders in the world right now, and it is a compliment that they trust us and our first-class operation.”

The rebranding of Tech3 under the KTM banner is part of a broader strategy to enhance the KTM presence in MotoGP. For the 2025 season, KTM will supply four factory bikes across its two teams. The factory team will feature Brad Binder and Pedro Acosta, while Vinales and Bastianini will lead the charge for the Tech3 KTM team.

Beirer emphasized the significance of this move, stating, “The team’s label for 2025 says it all: it is time to strengthen the KTM name again, and we couldn’t think of a better way to bring this kind of value to the company than having Enea and Maverick go full Red Bull orange.”

Vinales’ departure from Aprilia will undoubtedly leave a void. Aprilia will lose both of its current factory riders, with Aleix Espargaro having already announced his retirement from MotoGP at the end of the year. This leaves Aprilia with the task of rebuilding its team for the next season.

Initially, Vinales had intended to explore the possibility of extending his contract with Aprilia. The Noale-based brand had given him a second chance in 2021 after his tumultuous split from Yamaha. However, Aprilia’s decision to wait for Espargaro to decide his future before negotiating with Vinales complicated matters. The MotoGP rider market was further shaken up after the Italian Grand Prix when Aprilia announced it had signed Jorge Martin from Pramac, following Ducati’s decision to pair Marquez with Francesco Bagnaia for the 2025-26 seasons.

With both Vinales and Espargaro departing, the focus now shifts to who will fill the second factory Aprilia spot alongside Jorge Martin. Current VR46 riders Marco Bezzecchi and Fabio Di Giannantonio are seen as the most likely candidates. Both riders have shown potential and could bring a fresh dynamic to the Aprilia team.

Maverick Vinales’ switch to Tech3 KTM marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter in his MotoGP career. Partnered with Enea Bastianini, Vinales will have the opportunity to compete at the highest level with full factory support. This move also signifies KTM’s commitment to strengthening its presence in MotoGP, with a strategic focus on maximizing performance and brand value.

As the 2025 season approaches, all eyes will be on Vinales and Bastianini to see how they adapt to their new team and what successes they can achieve together. The reshuffling of teams and riders promises an exhilarating season ahead, with new rivalries and partnerships set to unfold on the MotoGP stage.
