Mick Schumacher secured two fresh teammates for his WEC Season 2025 as Alpine keeps developing their Hypercar model lineup. Schumacher begins his first real endurance race season in 2024 before joining Frederic Makowiecki and Jules Gounon in the #36 Alpine A424 LMDh team.
Nicolas Lapierre and Matthieu Vaxiviere left their driving positions as Alpine introduced Lapierre into a sporting director position and Vaxiviere took up a reserve role in Alpine’s Hypercar program. The team change proves Alpine wants endurance racing success by both keeping key personnel while hiring fresh minds who will enhance its racing outcomes.
The Porsche team welcomed Makowiecki, who delivered substantial contributions towards developing and racing their 963 Hypercar in addition to his extensive race career background. The LMDh project of Alpine is expected to benefit significantly from his combined expertise of simulation and track development provided by Makowiecki. Gounon will move from reserve status to a full-time driving position for Alpine during the 2024 season. His outstanding GT performances combined with his valuable substitute drives from last year solidified his position as the team’s promotion candidate.
Bruno Famin, who leads Alpine motorsport operations together with Lapierre and Philippe Sinault, made the key decisions that established the 2025 driver lineup. Sinault recognized the value of maintaining current practices but added that strategic changes should be implemented. Schumacher, Gounon, and Makowiecki provided essential support to Alpine as the team aimed at securing more podium finishes within the Hypercar category, according to Sinault’s assessment.
Before accepting a second season with Alpine beginning at the end of 2024, the driver had maintained flexibility regarding Formula 1 options. The German driver Schumacher will dedicate himself to endurance racing since his future is now established in the sport. The first-season performance of Alpine included a Fuji podium finish, which represented major success for the team.
Alpine decided to maintain its original driver team that competes with the #35 entry alongside the modifications to the #36 car. Charles Milesi, together with Ferdinand Habsburg and Paul-Loup Chatin, will keep their teammate roles to further develop Alpine Autosport’s fourth-place manufacturer’s standing from last season.
The 2025 WEC season will find Alpine using its newly formed driver selection to construct upon their initial Hypercar campaign success. Thanks to drivers Schumacher, Makowiecki, and Gounon, the Alpine team obtains a team of valuable drivers who aim to compete competitively with established WEC Hypercar competitors.
