This year’s Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup concluded at Monza with a gripping title battle between Bastian Buus and Larry ten Voorde. The Autodromo Nazionale di Monza witnessed a thrilling season finale, featuring collisions, yellow flags, and a unique “long-distance duel” at the Temple of Speed.

Belgian rookie Benjamin Paque set a blistering pace during the Practice Session, highlighting Monza’s slipstream advantage. The competitive field, with the first 19 drivers within a second, showcased the enduring competitiveness of the Porsche Supercup.

Championship contenders Bastian Buus and Larry ten Voorde faced challenges in Qualifying, emphasizing the importance of starting positions. Teamwork played a crucial role, with Harry King securing pole position through flawless laps and strategic slipstreaming.

Former F1 driver Timo Glock, in the iconic Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, aimed for a mid-field result after starting from P28 due to penalties. Rookie Alessandro Ghiretti, leading the standings, faced the challenge of securing points for the title against close competition.

Sunday’s race delivered excitement from the start, with collisions, strategic moves, and unexpected events. King held off challenges, while Buus faced adversity after an early incident. The race, shortened to 14 laps due to safety car phases, saw Buus make a remarkable recovery, ensuring a captivating “long-distance duel.”

Despite challenges, Harry King showcased unmatched pace, securing his third victory of the season. BWT Lechner Racing claimed the Team Championship title, and King’s performance helped 20-year-old Buus become the youngest Overall Champion in Porsche Supercup history.

Larry ten Voorde finished as a worthy runner-up, showcasing experience and skill. Timo Glock, the VIP driver, gained 17 places to finish in P11. Local hero Simone Iaquinta delighted the home crowd by completing the podium in Monza.

Monza witnessed the crowning of champions, unexpected twists, and intense battles, making the 2023 Porsche Supercup finale a memorable event. The season ended with records broken, and the youngest champion, Bastian Buus, etched his name in the series’ history.
