Alain Prost Reveals Crucial Role in Oscar Piastri’s Journey to Formula 1

Alain Prost, the former Formula 1 champion has been the figurehead behind the curtains in Oscar Piastri at the highest rung of motorsport and now, according to him, the McLaren driver is a serious candidate within a world title in 2025. Prost, who is now an adviser and pundit, had a crucial role in the early stages of the career of Piastri, having referred him to the driver academy of Renault in the days when the talent of the Australian had not yet been popularly recognized.

Considering Piastri experience in the junior formulas, Prost said that he has seen something special. Earlier in his career Prost recalled pushing Renault to take him in to the Academy, which they declined to do. He has watched the career of Piastri in F3 and F2 with interest and delight in the accuracy and racecraft that has echoed his driving technique too.

During the current season, Piastri has already become the star of McLaren, and it can be distinguished by his consistency, the ability to control the race, and the achievement of four victories in the first six races. Time and again we have heard how Prost has expressed how much of a psychological advantage that Piastri has, even over teammate Lando Norris and the entire grid. Piastri was the opposite of a flamboyant character: his calm, strict personality at work off the track was celebrated: the French legend noted that: “He barely speaks, has gone missing after races and has unweighted of this burden”, Prost proclaimed.

To Prost, the mindset shows a strength of yours truly as the modern F1 continues to incorporate pressure on the driver due to the influence of social media and constant spotlights as pressure grows. The temptation of maintaining this trend often leads many drivers into a loss, he said, as sharing leads to putting outrageous expectations on oneself, and since the level of concentration required is very important, it is best left to cool during the race weekends when he said that the zero concentration can be seen in Piastri.

He is majorly in contrast to Norris. The case of Prost who has encouraged Norris to think twice before getting into the limelight is one example he noted; Prost says, should I give him one piece of advice, it would be to shut up, implying that Norris by being more vocal, on- and off-radio, may be opening himself up to weaknesses.

In fact, Norris has vented his annoyance with an on-track gesture that is littered with curse words when he tussled with Max Verstappen. The advice provided by Prost relies on the psychological tactic: the less distractions the better performance .

Although Prost refused to choose one of the rivals as a winner and stated that the intra-team race is a long-term project, he admits that he is impressed with Piastri. He made special mention of the intelligent checkmating of other cars at the perfect time, of tires under the control of the Australian intelligent manipulation, and of the emotionless (or rather emotion-controlling) Aussie driver Prost himself became such a thing in a career marked by cutting, cold efficiency

The recent success of the MCL39 chassis at McLaren provided the team with the opportunity of both drivers fighting at the front, yet the psychological story belongs to Piastri. His thoughtful composure and lack of indulging on extraneous dialogue has earned Prost his approval and support. The support of the legend is not mere mouthpiece work, it is careful evaluation based on the years of experience understandable requirements of the driver and his sport, in both of which his minds ruthless requirements.

Prost saw Piastri destroy rivalry in the races such as Miami Prost-Norris showed occasionally volatile, but the story of an epic psychological engagement became inevitable The second-last advice made by Prost demonstrates his point: it is not speed which makes performance, it is composure. On the same front, Piastri has the design, the sponsorship of a four-time world champion, and the chance to win this year that appears as robust as any in the papaya-branded revival of McLaren.
