Charles Leclerc Analyzes Ferrari’s Weak Points Following Australian GP Setback

Charles Leclerc acknowledged that Ferrari requires its focus on two vital areas after a disappointing preliminary run in Formula 1’s Australian Grand Prix. The Monegasque driver finished the Australian Grand Prix race in eighth position during the messy Melbourne conditions for which he had several points of consideration. Rival McLaren driver Lando Norris seized first place as Ferrari continued underperforming against the competition during the early part of the 2025 season.

The Australian Grand Prix did not end well for Leclerc as his solid qualifying position deteriorated when personal errors and team strategy choices went wrong at the end of the race. Leclerc’s unsuccessful attempt to navigate Turn 11 resulted in the loss of crucial positions and his event deteriorated after his team selected an inappropriate timing for tire replacement during a pit stop. Leclerc quickly embraced the blame for his mistakes yet emphasized that Ferrari as a whole needed to enhance their performance levels.

Leclerc acknowledged to media personnel that his race downfall originated from two factors: his error at “easy” and his team’s lack of preparedness at “second”. My performance got worse when I lost several positions after the spin occurred. Teamwork should focus on solving this particular problem. The team should examine every decision to determine proper actions when encountering such conditions in future races.

Both Ferrari drivers had a challenging weekend because the SF25 produced challenges when operating in wet weather conditions alongside Lewis Hamilton. Sauza noted that his debut Ferrari car required “really, really hard to drive” skills while he faced difficulties in learning the new F1 power unit. During the competition Hamilton experienced a short period of leadership before he concluded the race in tenth position while complaining about inadequate weather information from the team.

Hamilton highlighted how limited precise rain predictions during the race required his team to make wrong assessments regarding the speed at which track conditions were deteriorating. Throughout most of the race Hamilton believed P5 was certain until wet conditions suddenly transformed the situation according to his words. The information indicated the shower would be brief with a quick duration before the last corner at that particular time. While I expected to maintain control the additional rainfall happened unexpectedly leading to our incident.

The McLaren team secured a dominant race victory as Lando Norris finished on top while Max Verstappen of Red Bull Racing and George Russell of Mercedes completed the podium positions before Ferrari was left puzzled. The SF25 experienced significant issues during wet weather operations yet the team struggled to seize opportunities provided by unpredictable weather conditions leaving their drivers unsatisfied. Leclerc plans to evaluate the mistakes made during the race to guarantee they do not appear in upcoming competition events.

Leclerc maintains his positive outlook that Ferrari will achieve turnaround success in subsequent competitions. The team will direct their efforts to develop a better decision process and optimize their car’s wet condition setups while taking advantage of unanticipated race situations that emerge. The early stage of the season demands swift actions from Ferrari to maintain their position in the championship battle against the opposition.
