“I think the drivers are superb in this whole setup because Lewis is as good as you can be,” said Wolff. “He’s in a situation, obviously, where on one side, it’s super frustrating to see that we are not getting it. On the other side, look over the fence. It’s pretty good what’s happening there. But that is not his main priority today. George is just a fighter and he’s sticking in, and he knows that’s his place. So, we’ve got to sort this out.”

“You always need to look at us like I need to look at myself. What is it? Why is it that we can’t get there? We’re humans. The data doesn’t take decisions. Humans do. So, we’re not stopping. I’m not sitting here and dwelling. But on the contrary, I’m thinking of what else is it that we need to do and how can we push.”

The Austrian added that he was monitoring how he communicated given the pressure Mercedes is under.

“As an Austrian, we very much wear our heart on our sleeve, and we see things very directly. “An Austrian says, ‘That’s really bad’. A British person would say, ‘That’s interesting’.

“So, I had to adapt the way I communicate in order to not create even more pressure in the team because it would break us.

“It’s not because of a lack of trying that we are not competitive. So, I’d rather be helpful and encouraging and say, ‘That’s interesting’.”

Lewis Hamilton, the seven-time world champion, and his upcoming move to Ferrari from Mercedes. Amidst the buzz, Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff sheds light on Hamilton’s perspective and the challenges facing the team.

Ferrari’s resurgence in Formula 1 has been nothing short of remarkable. Overcoming past pitfalls like poor pit stops and questionable strategies, the Scuderia has undergone a transformation, displaying improved race pace and consistency. The recent 1-2 finish at the Australian Grand Prix underscores their newfound prowess, challenging the dominance of Red Bull.

On the contrary, Mercedes finds itself grappling with ground-effect struggles for the third consecutive year. The W15, despite high expectations, has been plagued by inconsistency, culminating in a disappointing double retirement at Melbourne. Hamilton’s premature exit due to a power unit failure followed by George Russell’s crash highlights the team’s ongoing challenges.

Despite Ferrari’s surge and Mercedes’ setbacks, Hamilton remains steadfast in his commitment to the Silver Arrows. Toto Wolff asserts that Hamilton isn’t preoccupied with Ferrari’s success, emphasizing his dedication to the team’s cause. While acknowledging the allure of Ferrari’s performance, Hamilton prioritizes his current responsibilities, navigating through adversity with resilience.

Wolff praises Hamilton’s resilience amidst adversity, highlighting his unwavering dedication to the team’s objectives. Despite the challenges, both Hamilton and Russell exhibit remarkable professionalism, contributing to the team’s collective efforts to overcome hurdles and regain competitiveness.

Wolff adopts a reflective stance, acknowledging the need for self-assessment amidst Mercedes’ struggles. He emphasizes the importance of introspection and proactive measures to address underlying issues. Rather than dwelling on setbacks, Wolff emphasizes the team’s relentless pursuit of improvement, driven by data-driven insights and strategic decision-making.

In the face of mounting pressure, Wolff emphasizes the importance of adaptive communication. Recognizing cultural nuances, he underscores the need to maintain a supportive and encouraging environment within the team. By fostering open dialogue and constructive feedback, Wolff aims to alleviate pressure and foster a cohesive team ethos.
