Proton Racing has finalized its driver lineup for the Hypercar class in the upcoming World Endurance Championship (WEC) season. Neel Jani, winner of the Le Mans 24 Hours, will continue as a full-season driver alongside Porsche-contracted driver Julien Andlauer and Harry Tincknell. This trio will pilot the Porsche 963 LMDh car for Proton Racing.
Jani’s commitment to the team extends from his participation since the car’s debut at last year’s WEC round at Monza. Andlauer, a regular with Proton, is expected to join Jani for all eight races. Andlauer previously raced for Dempsey-Proton GTE Am Porsche squad and competed in the 2023/24 Asian Le Mans Series with the team’s LMP2 ORECA-Gibson 07s.
Tincknell, who drove alongside Jani and Gianmaria Bruni in the final three WEC rounds last year, has been confirmed for a second season with Proton Racing. In addition to WEC, Tincknell is also racing for the Multimatic-run factory Ford GT Daytona Pro squad in the IMSA SportsCar Championship this year. However, decisions regarding schedule clashes between WEC and IMSA are yet to be finalized.
Jani expressed optimism about Proton Racing’s chances, stating that with the strong driver lineup and support behind the car, podium finishes are a clear aim for the team. Despite being a non-factory team, Jani believes they have the potential to challenge for strong results in the Hypercar class.
The announcement completes Proton Racing’s lineup for the 2024 WEC season, with other teams also finalizing their entries. Notably, the United Autosports McLaren team confirmed its drivers across its two LMGT3 entries, including Nico Pino, Josh Caygill, Marino Sato, Nicolas Costa, Gregorie Saucy, and James Cottingham.
The 2024 WEC season will commence at the Losail circuit in Qatar on 24th February with the official pre-season Prologue test scheduled the weekend prior to the race.
