Sergio Perez and Red Bull Part Ways Following Challenging 2024 Season

Sergio Perez and Red Bull Racing announced they would sever their collaboration after a rather dramatic 2024 season. Despite Perez having recently renewed his contract until 2026, both he and the RB20 endured a challenging year, with Perez finishing a disappointing eighth in the drivers’ standings.

Perez joined Red Bull in 2021 and secured five wins, notably on street circuits, while playing a key role in helping the team clinch two successive constructors’ titles. However, the performance gap between him and teammate Max Verstappen became increasingly evident in 2024 and remained unresolved.

In his farewell statement, Perez took the time to express gratitude to the team, fans, and everyone who supported him, reflecting on the achievements and remarkable experiences throughout his Red Bull journey. Team Principal Christian Horner thanked Perez for his dedication, acknowledging him as a key contributor to the team’s success.

Attention now shifts to Liam Lawson, who is expected to replace Perez, with Isack Hadjar likely to step up to the Racing Bulls junior team.

For now, Perez’s future in Formula 1 remains uncertain after 14 seasons at the pinnacle of motorsport. However, he departs with six Grand Prix victories, 39 podiums, and a well-earned reputation as a fierce competitor.
