India Women T20I Sweep Sri Lanka in Final Match

India Women T20I sweep was the title evident in the Indian hosts defeating Sri Lanka 5-0 in a clean sweep with a 15-run win in the fifth and last game. India had to show depth, resilience and composure in a match that counted and it stood 175 for 7 courtesy of a knock by their captain, Harmanpreet Kaur, before their bowlers stood firm to give Sri Lanka only 160 for 7, despite the spirited half centuries by Hasini Perera and Imesha Dulani.

The victory reflected the increasing superiority of India in the shortest form of contest and was their third five-match T20I whitewash, having also previously reached that against West Indies in 2019 and Bangladesh in 2024. In addition to England, India have now been the only team to sweep in three such sweeps of the women T20 internationals, a record that goes further to allege them as the most stable of their format.

Strike early but India regroup, Sri Lanka.

Firstly, Sri Lanka played their finest powerplay attempt at the series with the ball, hitting in the early stages, it being a ground that provided minimal help to spinners. Shafali Verma, after three successive half-centuries, had been sent packing by Nimisha Meepage, and had been defeated, again, on a well-elevated shot going round the wicket. Novice G Kamalini who replaced Smriti Mandhana came shortly after, with her being caught by a lowly lbw or bowled off by Rashmika Sewwandi, and Richa Ghosh walking over by Chamari Athapaththu. India, brought down to 77 by a top-edged sweep by Deepti Sharma to short fine leg, were in their most dangerous situation of all in the series.

Harmanpreet Kaur Leads the Innings.

The turning point came though with the calm and composed leadership of Harmanpreet Kaur at the crease. With India tottering at the walk in, the captain combined his prudence and calculated aggression build up bringing the innings on track without making the scoring rate stagnant. She hit her fifty off 35 balls, the first hit more than a half-century that she had made since October 2024, her initial sedate progress.

Harmanpreet was especially successful against left-arm spinner Inoka Ranaweera with 31 runs in 17 balls with a great mastery and footwork. Her 68 inning was the back bone to the overall score of India and as the wickets continued to fall, India still stayed competitive as they advanced. Dilhari had pointedly fired her off later by his arm ball, although proving a useful platform in the rerun.Lower Order Adds Crucial Runs.

Then India’s low order marched to the times. After 18 deliveries, Amanjot Kaur made measured knock of 21 besides contributing 61 runs to the fifth wicket with Harmanpreet. Arundhati Reddy brought in the final flourish after Amanjot was dismissed as she went on to smash an unbeaten 27 off only 11 balls, four boundaries and a six.

Consequently, India gained 32 in most of the last two overs to make it 175 of 7 a number that was barely achievable by Sri Lanka in terms of lights and a dew that had appeared.

Fightback in Sri Lanka is a failure.

In retaliation, Sri Lanka began with an early loss of captain Chamari Athapaththu but Perera and Dulani made a vigorous comeback. Dulani was promoted to No. 3, and she played with confidence and purpose, taking good advantage of her feet to make a half-century. The innings was anchored by Perera who cleverly rotated before having to switch gears towards the end of his rotations.

Their 79 run partnership brought hope to the Sri Lankans, with the help of dew, but India counter attacked at the right time. Amanjot sent maa back home with her maiden delivery and Perera who had registered her maiden 50 in her 89th match was yorked at a crucial stage.

As Sri Lanka was already required 44 out of the last 20 balls, the bowlers of India strangled their fingers. The guests went 132-4 to 140-7 and punitive bowling by death completed the India Women T20I conquering in authoritative style.Records and Milestones.

Lastly, the game also had historic value because Deepti Sharma was the highest wicket-taker in the history of women in the T20Is and she overtakes Megan Schutt with her 152nd scrumble. It was an apt climax in a show that presented the richness, flex and flourishing dominance of India.

It was not merely a clean sweep of India Women T20I against Sri Lanka, but it was a statement of intent. In the hands of Harmanpreet, across the order and a bowling unit that rose to the occasion, India concluded the series as a wholly and self-assured team. With the preparations towards upcoming world tournaments underway in full swing, this is a definite message, as India is not only winning with its women but it is also setting examples.
