Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc scored an amazing triumph by making Ferrari secure the first win of this season on the track of Monza in Italy. Another race that was almost entirely defined by tactical management of a plethora of decisions also saw Leclerc once more come out victorious after choosing the one-stop sensation to fend off McLaren’s Oscar Piastri.
There was an impressive tyre management demonstrations on the afternoon race to comfortably beat Leclerc. While Piastri opted for a two-stop approach, he closed in on the Monegasque in the closing stages of the race but Leclerc was able to hold off his rival with the assistance of his fellow countryman Carlos Sainz whose pace restricted Piastri from getting by. The driver of the Scuderia Ferrari came through the finish line with a 2.884-second lead, sending the Monza crowd into raptures.
Piastri had the opportunity to challenge Leclerc till the very end of the race and in the last laps, take a hefty chunk out of the latter’s lead; but that was all he had in him and had to settle for second place. The Australian regretted that the tyre graining problem cost McLaren a better position saying that he had to sit down and ponder what might have been.
Lando Norris completed the podium positions which was a bit difficult for him given that Piastri outbraked him in the start of the race leaving Norris to sit in the seventh position .
Sainz who had done well during the race, tyre wear moved from a podium contender to a fourth-place finish by the time the Grand Prix was through. Lewis Hamilton stated that he was happy to finish fifth after a good race although there was some quarrel with Max Verstappen while the latter was not perfect in Brazil after getting a slow pit stop as well as having the worst pace of the race.
Ferrari in a race with no more twists triumphed with Leclerc who clinched a legendary victory in his home circuit that will be told for years to come.
