Jorge Martin produced yet another fantastic performance at the Misano World Circuit by once again scoring his fifth outright sprint victory of the season and increasing his lead in the MotoGP championship of 2024. Starting from the fourth on the grid, Martin again demonstrated excellent speed and handling ability, overtaking title rival Francesco Bagnaia to take the position of the leader.
The victory was quite significant for Martin as he had gone for three consecutive race weekends without a victory, besides, it was his second victory at Misano after having achieved a double triumph in the year before. Some of the feelings after the race can be seen from the following quote from Martin: “Finally back to winning, so I am super happy. I expected to fight with Pecco [Bagnaia], but I didn’t expect to do it from the start. I just focused on not making mistakes, and it paid off. ”
Bagnaia who come second in the competition had a poor start but a good pace that saw him closely chase after Martin. Still, he accepted it and said, “I attempted it but Jorge hard braking stopped me here, second place is fine, looking at what happened the last week.
It was also the first sprint podium for Franco Morbidelli, while the two Pramac riders finished in the first three. Enea Bastianini of Ducati secured fourth place, which was very close to a podium finish, and wrapped up the all-Italian performance on the finish line.
On the next tier, Marc Marquez made a late overtaking to get the fifth position, KTM’s Brad Binder and Jack Miller were at the last ten positions. The Yamaha rider Fabio Quartararo finished the race with one point in the ninth position ahead of Alex Marquez who finished tenth.
The sprint was quite a roller-coaster ride with many drivers getting track limit warnings and penalties to compound the tension of the event. Looks like our protagonists, Martin and Bagnaia are really into serious competition in the championship and everyone will expect the next sprint.
